Hi, I’m Azalia! I am a braider who also specializes in protective hair styles and loc maintenance. I’m fairly new to Newark, moving from Harlem in 2021. The journey that brought me to braiding is very interesting. I’ve always done hair for friends and family over the years. My sisters were kind enough to let me practice on them at first. I was truly interested in becoming a dentist. I momentarily set hair braiding aside.  In college, I majored in Biology and took all the prerequisites required all while braiding hair for my friends in my dorm room. Word got around campus pretty quickly that there was a braider in the dorm and soon enough I became super busy! Knowing that I couldn’t be the campus hair stylist and finish all my bio courses I shut the hair operation down to focus on my degree.  After college, I had a change of heart about dentistry. I found a career in sales, people management and had great opportunities to work at the intersection of people and science.  Throughout it all, braiding has always been a part of me. It is my creative outlet and an avenue to allow my right brain to thrive!

It has officially been 2 years since I have been braiding full time. I offer small, medium and large knotless braids, fulani braids, cornrows, Senegalese twists, Marley Twists, Kamikaze twists, 2 strand twists, loc re-twists, goddess braids, boho goddess braids and other natural hair styles. I love to try new styles, as well.  If you have the picture for inspiration, I can bring it to life.

When I’m not working I love a good stand up comedy special, concerts, long walks with coffee in hand (of course!), watching Tik Toks for food recipes and then trying my best to duplicate them!

I am now a full time braider and I would love to see you in my chair at Fait Maison!
